BENJAMIN FRANKLIN BLOCK 17

Strength in the Union Block is the name of this block. The British government decided to repel the Stamp Act even though it reserved the right to tax the North American Colonies. Ben felt that reconciliation with England was most important. After all, no colony had ever successfully split with its mother country and survived at least not in 1760. Ben feared deeper trouble was brewing.

Table Cloth & Pad

I made this table cloth for my son Antique Table. I had to make a pad for  the table I used  Warm and Natural in between the best muslin. It was 96 x  46. Eric made the pattern for it with freezer paper. It was circular and turned out great.  Now he doesn't have to use just place mats when he entertains.  The material matches his chairs and wall paper. How about that?  Click on the picture and see how it really looks.

BEN FRANKLIN STORM SIGNAL BLOCK

Benjamin was constantly observing hot and cold fronts, storm  patterns, and lightening. In 1937 the waving flags used to warn sailors of dangerous weather.  The light and dark are important to give this block its nautical flag like feel.  Click on picture to see how I made the dark and light  materials to make this block. I have to make 3 more  just like this  one for the BOM.

City Streets Ben Franklin BOM

The streets were in bad shape, there was garbage everywhere and at night were too poorly lit to navigate. Ben convinced the good public of Philadelphia  to pay for street repair, hire a team to collect garbage and to sweep the streets. Ben invented a cleaner lamp for the street lights in 1736 Ben organized the Union Fire Company  the first volunteer fire department in the colonies.  Here are my 4 blocks for this month.

Ben Franklin Thrifty Block

This is one of the 4 Blocks I made for this month. Ben was a great success with his yearly Poor Richard's Almanack. With his words to live by. Early to bed, and early to rise makes a Man healthy, wealthy and wise. A penny saved is a penny earned. A true friend is the best  Possesion. A lie stands on one leg, Truth on two.
Haste makes waste. No gains without pains. Fish and visitors stink after three days. Well done is better than well said.
